The Churches & Cathedrals in Algarve are a reflection of its culture and history, and they are a worthy destination for visitors. It is easy to get flights to Faro airport and then stay in a hotel or villa while looking around and enjoying the sunshine, the food and the hospitality of the locals. There are good and quick Faro transfers to and from the airport, but you can rent a car too if you prefer.
One of the most amazing churches to see if you are in the Algarve is the Faro Cathedral. It within the city of Faro, so you don’t have to venture out to see it if you are staying in Faro. Built around 1251 and then rebuilt after and English attack, the cathedral has wood carvings, tile work, and marble work that is worth seeing. There is a little museum and a cafe so you can sit outside and enjoy the peacefulness of the surroundings.
Another fantastic example is the Church of Sao Lourenco de Almancil. It is located in the civil parish of Almancil which is in Algarve. The records talk about this church since around 1600s, and the church is still standing despite it being damaged in the 1755 earthquake. The interior is a must-see since the church from the outside is a typical Portuguese building. The indoor azulejo tiles tell a story of the life of Saint Lawrence, and they are quite complex and beautiful, making it an excellent addition to this church.
Portuguese traditional buildings are white and straightforward, reflecting a simplicity of their lifestyle. Indoors, however, it is an entirely different story. This change can be seen in their homes, cafes, and churches. The white buildings help to keep the places cool in the hot summer sun, and some people enjoy a nap during the day. In the summer time one of the best places to visit are Churches & Cathedrals in Algarve since they offer beautiful sites and don’t require a lot of time to visit.
Churches are Fun to Visit
Coming to Portugal is worth it. Arranging flights, Faro transfers and accommodation is easy, but you should book hotels in Algarve early, so you get the best possible choice. People are finding Portugal more and more popular, so it just means you have to plan your journey ahead of time. Perhaps it’s worth going later in the year so the temperatures get the chance to drop a little bit and avoid the Summer crowds as there are normally fewer people on holiday.
